Ibadan, Nigeria
“Ibadan,
running splash of rust
and gold-flung and scattered
among seven hills like broken
China in the sun.”
J.P Clark
This beautiful, sleepy city is the capital of the south-western state of Oyo in Nigeria. Ibadan is the largest city in Nigeria by landmass, and the third-largest by population. Fun fact: until 1970, Ibadan was the largest city in Sub-Saharan Africa by surface area.
Home to the University of Ibadan (UI), the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), University College Hospital (UCH - the first teaching hospital in the nation), and numerous other internationally-renowned institutions, including the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria, Ibadan was once a cultural and commercial centre of Nigeria.
